C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, June 8

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a brief summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

Structure fire, June 7, Warrior Road, CCSO, Campbell County Fire Department

Emergency personnel responded to the area of Warrior Road and Little Powder River Road shortly after noon for a report of a structure fire, according to Sheriff's Office Lt. Paul Pownall and the CCFD. Upon arrival, responders observed smoke and flames coming from a building. Firefighters contained the fire to the building of origin; there were no civilian or firefighter injuries. According to the fire department, the cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information will be shared at this time.

Interference, June 7, Highway 14-16, CCSO

Deputies responded to a request from the Wyoming Highway Patrol to locate a woman wearing black garments and flip-flops who was reported for jumping in front of vehicles on Interstate 90 near milepost 124 around 3:51 p.m., Pownall said. The woman was located in a parking lot on Highway 14-16, where she provided deputies with two different names and dates of birth. One of the names had an active but non-extraditable warrant. The woman also displayed signs of recent drug use and admitted to smoking methamphetamine two days prior. She was arrested for interference and cited for using a controlled substance.

Reckless endangering, June 7, Rohan Avenue, GPD

Officers cited a 20-year-old man for reckless endangering after he reportedly shot a 10-year-old boy in the chest with a BB gun on Rohan Avenue around 5:05 p.m., Gillette Police Capt. Jason Marcus said. The man said he was trying to scare the boy, who was hiding behind a tree. The 10-year-old boy sustained a minor cut on his chest from the BB and his parents were notified of the incident.

Suspicious activity, June 7, Rockpile Boulevard, GPD

A 55-year-old woman on Rockpile Boulevard called the police at 7:20 p.m. to report that an unknown woman holding a package had fled from her porch after banging on her back door, Marcus said. The woman was wearing a blue and orange jacket and a backward baseball cap. Witnesses reported seeing the woman flee toward a gray or silver Pontiac Bonneville being operated by a white man approximately 50 years of age. Witnesses also heard the man tell the woman that she had 10 minutes to get back to the house before the vehicle drove northbound through an alleyway and disappeared. The investigation is ongoing.

Child abuse, June 7, Stanley Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Stanley Avenue around 9:46 p.m. to investigate a claim that a 34-year-old woman struck her 16-year-old son following a verbal argument, Marcus said. The incident was reported by a 46-year-old man, the boy's probation officer. During the investigation, the mother said she slapped her son twice, grabbed him by his hair, and shoved him into his bedroom after he called her vulgar names. Both the boy and his mother were calm while speaking with officers. The case will be followed up by the Wyoming Department of Family Services and the Campbell County Attorney's Office.

Child in need of supervision, June 7, Warlow Drive, GPD

A 13-year-old girl was transported to the YES House after she reportedly failed to return home on time around 10:13 p.m., Marcus said. The girl's mother, 34, found her at the carnival, but the girl was defiant and believed she could do what she wanted. She was transported by officers.
